East German '3 pin' Fire Helmets.
1950-1955

Robert Lubstein vulkanfiber fire helmet. The chin strap is left over from WW2 and is stamped RB-Nr. 0/0335/001. On the under side of the liner is stamped 'Robert Lubstein Berlin No 55'. The vent screens also differ from DDR fire helms produced at a latter date. The metal rim along the edge is unusual in that it has a raised 'bead' running along the inside rear skirt. This raised bead is seen in 1930's fiber-helms and is not seen in DDR vulkanfiber helms produce later. This Bead leads me to believe this helmet is from the first first batch of fire helmets Robert Lubstein made for the DDR.

Robert Lubstein vulkanfiber fire helmet. Italian liner stamped 'Robert Lubstein Berlin No 55', the vent screens and liner pins are the same as the helmet above. The difference is the lack of the raised 'bead' running along the inside rear skirt.

German M16 acquired by Finland in the 1920's. Shell markings are hidden under the paint. Refurbished post war with new green paint, chin strap and liner. To accommodate the new Finnish chin strap additional holes were drilled immediately above where the original chinstrap posts were once located. After being repainted, it appears that they were stacked with a layer of newspaper between the helmets. Some of this newspaper is still stuck to the helmet.
